Volume 02 of the Carl & Strups children's book series tells the story of the hard years in the Erzgebirge mountains during the late 18th century.

After storms, hail and failed harvests, food becomes scarce and prices continue to rise. Many families struggle to find enough bread for the next day.

At the same time, hungry animals leave the forests and feed on the remaining crops. Yet nobody is allowed to drive them away, because the game belongs to the prince.

As Carl witnesses the hardships around him, he begins to understand that rules are not always fair.

Together with his loyal companion Strups, he sets out on a journey through the Erzgebirge. Along the way they meet people who help one another, share what little they have, and stand together through difficult times.

This beautifully illustrated children's book combines historical atmosphere with a warm story about kindness, friendship and the courage to do what is right.

The Carl & Strups series is designed for children aged approximately 4 to 10 and invites families to discover the landscapes, history and legends of the Erzgebirge together.
